The club is saddened to hear the news that former player Eric Fitzsimons has sadly passed away. Eric passed away on Saturday morning following a long suffering battle with Dementia.

Eric played for both Hunslet and Oldham RLFC and was a superb goal kicking back throughout his career.

Eric was a very popular player in his time at Hunslet. He holds the record for the most goals in a career (332) and most points in a career (740) post the reformation of the club in 1974 as New Hunslet.

He also shares the honour of scoring the most points in a season (264) during the 1983/84 season. This has only been equalled once, which was by Mike Fletcher in our 1999 Grand Final winning season.

Eric was well respected by all supporters of the club for not only his performances on the pitch but the way he conducted himself off it.

Eric also successfully led Oldham to a Second Division Premiership win at Old Trafford.

The club has been in dialog with the family and we are hoping to get approval from the RFL for a minuteโ€™s applause prior to our home game against Coventry Bears.

Our thoughts and prays go out to Ericโ€™s family and friends at this sad time.

RIP Eric
