After signing from Hunslet Intermediates (for £25) in November 1957, Kenny Eyre got to make his first team debut today in 1959 at home to Wakefield Trinity. He played in the Championship final later that season and also in the 1962 Yorkshire Cup and 1965 Challenge Cup finals.

In 1961 he played for a combined Bramley – Hunslet – Leeds side against the New Zealand tourists and in 1965, against the same opponents, was capped by Yorkshire and Great Britain.

In September 1966, Kenny transferred across the river to Leeds for £3,750, where he would play alongside his brother, Albert, who moved to Leeds from Keighley.  Kenny broke his arm on his debut for Leeds against Wigan.

He moved to Keighley from Leeds at the end of his career.

His Hunslet record is played 229 matches and scored18 tries.

Registered today in 1950 was Martin Boland, a second rower signed from Hunslet Supporters for a £250 signing on fee.

It was not necessarily Martin’s rugby career for which he was known (50 first team games over 10 seasons), but as an accomplished clarinettist, well known on the West Yorkshire Trad-Jazz scene with the band The White Eagles.

2010 was the year coach Paul march took Hunslet Hawks to promotion by finishing top of the Championship league table. The opening match of the season was 7th February and ten players made their debuts.

The match at London Skolars saw the following make their first appearances:-

David Clayton                              Rob Kelly

Luke Haigh                                  John Oakes

Tommy Haughey                        Adam Sullivan

James Houston                          Jake Wilson

Stuart Kain                                   Danny Grimshaw

We’ve previously seen Charlie Sage become our first Other Nationalities player. Today in 1925 he became our first Welsh representative, playing in a 22-27 defeat to England at Workington.

And in 1894, Owen Walsh was at Huddersfield helping Yorkshire beat Midlands Counties.
