Head Coach Kyle Trout is confident the Parksiders can have a good dig against Super League side Huddersfield Giants.

The Giants knocked Hunslet out of the cup last year 6-34, but the Parksiders will be hoping to go one better this time against their Super League rivals.

“Obviously, Huddersfield are a Super League team and are a fit and detailed outfit.” said Trout, “but we look sharp and have shown glimpses in our first two games of the threat we pose. We need to be competitive and give 100%, and it will be a good test.”

Playing on a Friday night is also a plus in Trout’s book: “I look forward to it, Friday night atmospheres are always good, and it gives us a bit more time to prep for next week’s game at Salford.”

With Leeds United also playing, it may take a few people off the gate, but the club have pulled the kick-off forward to 7pm, so supporters can watch the second half of the Whites’ game in the Phoenix Bar.

On the injury front, Dan Abram is probably a week away from playing, whilst the club awaits news on Kevin Larroyer, who could be out for some time.

With the retirement of Matty Dawson-Jones last week, Hunslet are looking to add to the squad, but they won’t be rushed into it.

“A few players have been thrown at us, but we are being choosy. We have a small squad, but the bigger picture is we don’t want players just for a short term, we need players for a decent spell of time, so it’s a waiting game.

“We are a bit light in Center and Back Row for experience, but we have players in the squad who can play there and can step up if needed.”

Asked about the season so far, Trout was still frustrated about the opening game.“I’m still annoyed about the loss to Dewsbury; we didn’t follow our game plan. It was a 4-point game really, and we started off so well but didn’t make good choices and compounded that with basic errors.

“However, at Stanningley we showed what we could do. Although they are a conference team, we killed them and scored some good tries, though I feel we also left a lot of points out there.”

It’s still early in the season and no season is judged on its first match, but a good performance tomorrow night will put confidence in Hunslet fans’ hearts for the upcoming League trip to Salford.

The game is sponsored by Hare & Hounds (Rothwell) and takes place on Friday 6 Feb, with a 7:00pm kick-off.
