Head Coach Kyle Trout wants to keep up momentum for his side’s trip on Sunday to Widnes Vikings (Mar 8th 3pm).

Trout feels his side came off the back of their win at Rochdale full of confidence for the game last week against a good Sheffield Eagles side but lost with silly errors.

“We defended well last week and scored some good tries; in fact, we have scored some quality tries this season. But we conceded tries from our own errors. Either on the last tackle after penalties or when we had the ball. Teams find it hard to break us down, which means we are beginning to understand our system. I thought we were a bit too predictable in attack, we need to come out of our comfort zone a bit, but we’ve shown we have quality with the ball.”

Although Hunslet look to have the makings of a good side — injuries, suspensions and retirements mean they have had to look at loans for the next few weeks.

With Keelan Foster and Kevin Larroyer out long term, Ethan O’Hanlon on a 2-week ban, Mo Agoro expected to miss out, and Coby Nichol, Bailey Aldridge and Matty Dawson-Jones all retired. The Parksiders have brought in Matty Laidlaw from Hull FC and Ben Littlewood, Presley Cassell and Tom Nicholson-Watton from Leeds Rhinos.

“To be honest, I’m not a fan of short-term loans.” says Trout “But needs must. We only have 16 bodies and we need depth. I’ve played with Matty, and he’s a quality player, whilst the Rhino’s lads have bags of energy and have played in a good system. Also, they are local lads and are keen to turn out for Hunslet.”

“Widnes are the strongest team we have faced; they have a good shape and threats all over, so it will be a good measurer. We are not expected to win, but internally we always think we can win games. I like things to stay in house, prep for games, be consistent and challenge in areas we know we can get at. We were frustrated not to beat Sheffield last week, and we are confident we can cause Widnes problems.”

Hunslet also have Bureta Faraimo on loan again for another week, although Isaac Misky doesn’t feature.
