Head Coach Kyle Trout and his players and staff are ready to attack the next few matches on what he has described as the ‘defining part’ of the season.
Coming off three wins on the bounce, Hunslet host Workington Town this Sunday at the South Leeds Stadium (May 3rd 3pm) with a chance to climb the Betfred Championship.
“It’s a nice feeling to win three League games on the trot. We did take a beating at Whitehaven, and we have bruised and broken bodies, but we are confident that we can turn it on for the home crowd. The lads understand the way we want to play, and we saw improvements in our defence up in Cumbria. We are confident in attack and realise we don’t have to chase points. There are tests to come in the next few weeks, but we really think this next month could define our Season.”
Injuries to some players up in Cumbria mean some bodies (including Myles Harrop) have to be assessed before the weekend, but with 3 loan players coming in from Leeds, Joe Butterfield already on loan and Jordan Baldwinson with a loan extension from Doncaster, The Parksiders can field a strong outfit.
“It’s never ideal to have injuries, but we have players in the squad who can step up. Potential leaders who can get us through dark places, plus the lads coming in from Leeds (Riley Lumb, Joe Diskin and Marcus Qareqare) are all quality players with energy and ability and are champing at the bit to get out there and play for us.”
Workington have been a bogey side recently at the South Leeds Stadium, but Hunslet are in a strong position now and must be confident of a win.
“They are physical and quick round the ruck, Jamie Doran is a threat with lots of experience. They would have pinpointed this game to win, but we will go after them. We started well last week, and if we play at our tempo and don’t allow them to get physical, we are not afraid to expand early on and shock teams.”
Myles Harrop and Jack Ward were impressive on Sunday and Trout is happy with their performances.
“One on one, Myles is terrific, he really suits our style of play and is fully onboard with the project. With Charlie Graham on the other flank, we have some real threat out wide. Jack has come in recently and, at only 21, shows real class and confidence. He’s happy to take on the line and take control of the play, learning all the time off Lee Gaskell. It was great to see Jimmy Watson score on Sunday; he really brings passion to the squad and keeps totting up the tries”.
Hunslet hope to make it 2 wins at home on the bounce this Sunday after a barren spell. Hopefully the support can roar Hunslet on to another victory.
