Last night the Phoenix bar held a Q&A with a number of former players who reminisced about days gone by and gave their views on the current game.

Hosted by match day announcer Andrew Dalton the audience heard stories from 70’s star Peter Ryecroft whilst Richie Baker talked of how he overcame an horrific eye injury to make a match saving tackle on Barry Eaton in the final minutes of the ’99 Grand Final (sorry Baz).

Former player and current assistant coach Matt Bramald gave an interesting insight in to why we are always ten years behind the Aussies and how we look to close the gap.  A big thank you also goes to rugby league stalwart Norman Smith and ex-referee Bernard Shooman, who admitted to having to rush and buy a “green final” to find out the score of a match he’d been officiating!

The highlight of the evening was Steve Pryce’s colourful recollection of his encounter with the infamous Tim Street.  By the sound of things both players were lucky to make it onto the pitch after a pre-match set to in the tunnel. Nevertheless Stevo’s favourite ever game.

A great evening was had by all and the club would like to thank Peter Jarvis for organising.

Keep a look out for future events throughout the season.
