HUNSLET Foundation’s first outdoor schools Rugby League tournament of the year was a resounding success.
The Year 4 Tag Rugby event, which was hosted by Middleton St Mary’s, also involved teams from Beeston, Gildersome, Low Road and Windmill schools, and the Foundation’s General Manager Mikey Nuttall said: “The tournament was organised after development officer Aidan Robinson and I had been into local schools and had very positive reactions. All but three or four of the children involved were sampling Rugby League for the first time, and perhaps the most encouraging thing about the event was that they were all buzzing afterwards.
“It was a great experience, too, for our five students from Leeds University who are helping out with the Foundation’s work. They seemed to enjoy it as much as the children!
“We’re very grateful to St Mary’s for offering us their facilities and helping ensure that everything went smoothly.”
