The magazine, based on Hunslet RLFC and amateur Rugby League in the area, this month charts a memorable spell in which Head Coach Gary Thornton and his players retained their status as Betfred League 1 leaders, in addition to taking Championship side Halifax all the way in the Coral Challenge Cup.
Chairman Neil Hampshire sets out Hunslet’s position on the proposed acceptance into the European competition of New York and Ottawa, and regular columnists Pat Benatmane, Chris Westwood, Steve Boothroyd and `Oftcumden’ are as entertaining as ever.
Clive Allsop – Hunslet’s Secretary in the late 1970s and early 1980s – evokes many happy memories of that era with his recollections, while Thornton and current players such as Ben Heaton are interviewed.
Tribute is paid, too, to legends recently lost, former players Dennis Tate (famous for `Tate’s Try’) and Gordon Tindale having passed away recently. South of the River, which costs £3 (£4 online including postage and packaging), is available from the club shop at the South Leeds Stadium and online by clicking here
