Recap
The Hawks were back to winning ways with a convincing win against the York City Knights which saw them move three places up the league table. After just five minutes the Hawks had managed to get themselves on the board when Luke Helliwell kicked an early penalty to get the scoreboard ticking over.
York gave as good as they got and piled on the pressure, a team who beat Featherstone earlier on this year they weren’t going to give up easily, but they came up with the error on the last, and Jamel Chisholm managed to escape with the ball. March was in support and his offload out to Singleton saw the prop power his way over only to see it ruled out for a forward last pass.
Pryce led by example burrowing across despite a contest from defenders to score against his former side. As the York outfit finally rewarded themselves with possession they camped in the Hawks half and Liam Kent crossed quickly in the corner to ease the building pressure.
A persistent Hunslet side was encouraging to see Luke Haigh thinking on his feet and put through a perfect attacking kick that caught York out with the bounce. The defence caught the full back in goal and forced a dropout. Helliwell got another opportunity for points after another penalty which he converted and the sides left for the break at 10-6.
Hunslet were certainly giving the fans something to watch. Jimmy Watson raced from the tap restart, darting past defenders before sprinting almost the full length before tapping the ball for Keinhorst to finish off. A great opening set but the try wasn’t enough to push them out of danger as York’s Liam Kent took control and latching onto an inside pass he got them within four points.
The officials were kept busy this afternoon and as a fight broke out in centre field it was the Hawks once again who came out worst off but worked tirelessly from the disadvantage. Both Helliwell and Yates had been across the try line but had tries disallowed.
Keinhorst went over for his second as the centre was in perfect position from the charge down. Tommy Haughey then forced the winger into touch so he got the ball back. James Houston finished off things in the last leg with a try just left of the sticks. March missed with the kick but it was enough to push the bonus point away from York.
26-12 was a fair reflection of the game in the end. The home side worked well together and apart from a short lapse in concentration had been outstanding in defence. Pryce, Menzies and the Rhinos boys had all been stand out and this result will have made a huge impact on the league table.
