In 1971 the Yorkshire Evening Post reported that a proposal for a speedway track at Parkside had been put to the directors by Universal Speedways, which could potentially raise up to £12,000 per annum for the club. The proposal would require planning permission and a license from the Speedway Board of Control.mI can find no further information on this, but obviously it never happened.

In 1977, Peter Muscroft played for Yorkshire against Lancashire at Castleford. After scoring “a most brilliant try,” Peter unfortunately broke his ankle. Obviously he would be absent for a number of weeks, so the club signed Rudi Francis from Bradford Northern as cover. The programme for the Blackpool Borough match on the 13th tells us his nickname was “Red” and that even the most cynical of fans must agree the club “moved faster than Concorde” to obtain his services.

In the 1950 England v Wales match at Wigan, Hunslet centre Les Williams was in the Wales side which lost 6-11.
