DAN BRIGGS and Liam Watling were presented with their Hunslet Rugby League heritage certificates following the Parksiders’ victory over Heworth on Sunday in the Betfred Challenge Cup.
Watling, who was in the second row for Heworth, played five games for Hunslet in 2008, making his debut against Dewsbury Rams on 17 February and playing his final match on 27 July, at home to Workington Town.
Briggs, also a Heworth product, was at the match partly because his son, Harrison, was in the Villagers’ ranks alongside Watling. But he was also at the game because of his strong Hunslet connections. Dan Briggs, in fact, touched down for the south Leeds outfit – then known as Hunslet Hawks – in the sensational giant-killing 18-14 triumph over Super League’s Huddersfield Giants back in 2003. That was one of three tries he scored for Hunslet in 36 appearances, having made his debut against Swinton on 18 February 2001; his last match was against Gateshead on 11 May 2003.
