Hunslet Head Coach Dean Muir has prepared his side for the start of the second half of the season, starting this Sunday with a home game against Barrow Raiders (Sunday, June 22nd 3pm).
The Parksiders have already taken two scalps and pushed some other established Championship sides close, but now Hunslet have to up the tempo as they aim to establish themselves in the second tier of British Rugby League.
The Parksiders lost 26-24 at Featherstone last week, but although Hunslet can be happy with the performance, they felt they should have won the game.
“If you score 24 points away at Featherstone you should be winning the game. We were not happy internally. Individual errors cost us. We must cut out those errors, stick together and turn a good performance into a win. We are never happy losing.” Said Head Coach Dean Muir.
With two home games coming up, it’s a chance for Hunslet to bring some of their away form to the South Leeds Stadium.
“Every game is a big game, but we have targeted the next four games. We are pretty happy with where we are but need to back up week by week. There will be changes to the squad and the starting 18. We are into the second half of the season now, the business end of the season.”
Sadly, Hunslet will be missing Greg Eden and Kevin Larroyer due to injury, and star loose-forward Kobe Rugless goes on a two-week loan to Salford Red Devils.
“It’s a shame to lose Kobe, but it’s a chance for someone to step up.” says Muir. “It’s a credit to the Club that a Super League Club wants one of our players. It shows our players also want to improve.” said Muir.
But on the upside, in comes 19-year-old Winger Joe Ward from Hull FC.
“Joe is a local lad, from East Leeds who is enthusiastic to get game time. He’s trained well and adds to our group. He carries the ball well and knows his way to the line. He should be a good addition.”
Another cause for celebration is that Harvey Hallas (if selected) will make his 100th appearance for Hunslet.
“Harvey has hit form. He carries well and has an impact, moves well and has great balance. He is good in defence and brings steel and toughness to the team. His yard gain on impact is excellent. 100 appearances for any Club is superb, and he’s been a great servant to the Club.”
The Club has been looking at ways to get fans into home games and this week has over 160 children coming to the game, as Hunslet look to get their fans loud and proud for the season run in.
