Hunslet have pulled off something of a coup by signing highly-rated centre or back-row man Brad Hey.

Hey, 26, has joined the Parksiders from Betfred Championship side York on a one-year deal and is determined to play a full part in the bid for promotion from League 1 in 2021.

The Castleford Panthers product said: “I’ve got a few mates at Hunslet and they say nothing but positive things about the place, in fact the club has a very good reputation around the game.

They’re clearly a top side and judging by their form earlier in the year, before the lockdown struck, will be pushing for promotion next season”.

“I’m looking forward to contributing to that and I’m also keen to start playing under Gary Thornton, who is recognised as being one of the best coaches around”.

Thornton enthused: “This is a massive signing for us, and I’m so pleased that Brad has chosen Hunslet amid competition for his signature from other clubs.

I’ve been a big admirer since he joined York from Castleford Tigers, and he has developed into a quality back row or centre”.

He added: “He now has experience at Championship level too, and I was surprised but delighted when I heard of his availability. He has pace, strength, good skills, and a great level of professionalism.

Brad will be a terrific addition to our group. His lines of running in attack have been well honed and he makes good decisions in defence; I’m really excited to see him in Hunslet colours.

“Whilst losing Josh Tonks and Ben Heaton to Championship clubs was a huge loss for us, signing Brad and Will Cooke more than compensates for their departures”.
