The weather may be hampering progress for most of us as 2025 welcomes us with a cold blast, but not for Hunslet, who are hard at work preparing for the Championship Season.
The snow and ice may have done for this weekend’s fixture against York, but the Club are working with York to see if a behind-closed-doors opposed session on a 4G all-weather pitch is possible.
“I’ve always had a good relationship with (York Coach) Mark Applegarth.” said Head Coach Dean Muir.
“He was the first to congratulate us after the play-off win at Keighley and Promotion play-off at Swinton.
“We had a great opposed session at Featherstone Rovers last week when we played well and competed with a strong Championship side, and this week we’ll hopefully get to give a run out to our full squad with York.
“We’ve also got another couple in the diary before we see who we play in the Challenge Cup.”
It’s frustrating for the fans though, as they’ve not seen some of this year’s star signings and last year’s promotion heroes. But there is a sense that something is building at the South Leeds Stadium with a big uptake in season tickets.
“I’m very happy with the squad in training.” said Muir “They are ripping in and ahead of where we were last year, but we are in the Championship now. It’s still a young team, and we’ll get better as the season goes on.
We want to be solid over a sustained time and make Hunslet a regular fixture in the Championship.”
It’s going to be a fun ride, with many ups and downs. But if the community gets behind the side it could be another season to remember.
