Hunslet Coach Dean Muir has prepared his 21 man squad for Sunday’s trip to Workington Town, June 2nd 3pm, where the Parksiders will look to continue their impressive start to the season.
Following a fortnight off the 42-16 victory last Sunday over Cornwall was a good one to get out of the way. “It took us 40 minutes to get going and we probably left 5 or 6 scores out there, we have some sore bodies after the break, but we’re prepared for Workington,” said Muir.
“It’s a massive task to go up there and win with quality players in their ranks like Sammut, Burns and Forber. They came to us in April and beat us, so we’re out for revenge. We are confident after our last few outings and believe we can perform up there.”
With Aaron Levy away getting married Matty Fletcher comes in, and Hunslet have secured Jamaican International Back Rower/Middle Keenen Tomlinson on loan from Featherstone Rovers. Joe Law, who impressed against Keighley, also returns on dual registration from Wakefield Trinity.
At a third of the way through the season Muir reflected on his side so far “We are in a good position, and where we want to be. I’m impressed with the squad’s development. We continue to work on our attack and our ability to break teams down. We need to create pressure and become ruthless, challenge the space.”
One individual that is coming in for lots of plaudits is lynchpin Matty Beharrell “Matty’s kicking has been brilliant, he’s composed, leads the group and is good to be around.” Returning forward Jack Coventry also came in for praise “Jack’s come in against Cornwall, got himself really fit and been aggressive, sharp and brought real go forward.”
Asked about recruits Muir said “We are always on the lookout for new additions to improve the squad and create healthy competition for the shirt. Players are also coming to us wanting to join, showing that people want a part of what’s going on down at Hunslet.”
Billy Gaylor has been released from his contract by mutual consent, Matty Beharrell will take over the role of Club Captain.
