Batman and Spiderman were not the only superheroes at South Leeds Stadium on Sunday. We were proud to welcome some heroes closer to home.
Young Jack Wildman was on the final day of a “2k every day in May” running challenge and was accompanied by friends on his final 5 laps of the track. Jack is raising money for MND in memory of his Grandma. It was great to have rugby’s very own Wonder Woman Lindsey Burrow and family on hand to present him with his medal to mark his fantastic achievement.
Also, there cheering Jack on was The Leeds Warrior himself, Josh Warrington. The 2-time IBF World Featherweight Champion is a superman inside and outside the ring and took time to give an inspirational talk to the U11s from Hunslet ARLFC and Thornhill on the importance of sport, hard work and dedication. A day to remember for everyone.
We also welcomed some trailblazers for the Asian Community in rugby league. Gurdeep Ryatt was the first professional Asian player and featured for New Hunslet in the 1970’s. Gurdi’s breakthrough achievements have been highlighted by the brilliant work of another former player, Dr Ikram Butt and the British Asian Rugby Association. Both Gurdi and Ikram were presented with their heritage certificates.
