Hunslet face a tough trip to Barrow Raiders in the Kingstone Press League One Super-8s on Sunday, after last weekend’s 36-24 home defeat by Doncaster.
Coach Matt Bramald said the positive is they know exactly what went wrong. “Defensively we were erratic,” Bramald reflected.
“We weren’t carved to pieces, but we made isolated poor decisions and we weren’t very cohesive at certain points.
“When you can’t defend your line for more than a couple of tackles in a set after you’ve made an error, it is going to be difficult.
“The stiffness and steel we showed against Keighley was absent and we were nowhere near where we had been in previous weeks.”
Bramald added: “We didn’t play particularly well with the ball either, but we scored 24 points.
“That should have been good enough. If we had defended anything like we are capable of we would have won the game.”
The defeat left Hawks sixth in the table, one place and a point outside the play-offs. Bramald said his side came through with no major fitness concerns. Lewis Reed is expected to be available for Sunday’s game at Craven Park, despite suffering a dead leg.
