Community Director Phil Hodgson had the pleasure of accompanying former press office (and namesake) Phil Hodgson on a trip down memory lane as he returned to Hunslet Carr with former school friends Alan Charlton, Keith Dawson and Laurie Baker.
Director Phil explained the reason for the visit: “Alan and Keith played in the highly successful school team in the 60s. The team was coached by Miss Collinson and having a female coach was something quite ground-breaking at the time. So much so it featured on BBC sports programmes of the day, Click below to view:
The lads were keen to share their stories with the children and even brought along an opposing player, Laurie Baker, to help reinforce the message of just how good they were! Though Laurie was quick to point out that the 8-0 defeat his Cottingley School suffered could have been a different story but for a couple of dropped passes.”
Phil continued: “We’ve had a great morning. A big thank you to lads for ensuring the next generation are well versed on the proud history of the School and the Club. Also, thank you to Headmaster Mr Lumb, his team, and the children for the warm welcome we received. We will be looking to return the favour by inviting the youngsters and their parents as special guests to a game this season.”
