Sally and Vicky from the Citizens Advice Leeds were guests at last Friday’s Breakfast Club and informed regulars about how to go about claiming the Winter Fuel Allowance.
Community Director Phil Hodgson explained “I’d seen a feature on TV about pensioners missing out on the Winter Fuel Allowance and over ยฃ1.5 billion of unclaimed pension credits. Tight deadlines and not understanding eligibility were two of the main reasons people were not claiming the benefit”.
“We have a lot of pensioners at the Breakfast Club so I thought it would be a great opportunity to get some of the key messages across to make sure our people were not missing out and arm them with the information to tell their friends and family. We are grateful to Sally and Vicky for coming along. If it makes a difference to one person it is worthwhile exercise.”.
The key message from the presentation is to start enquiring now as to whether you are eligible for 2025/26 Winter Fuel Payment or Pension Credits.
