It’s a few days after Steve Pryce’s fundraiser and after a great effort by all I have a lot of “thank you’s” to send out. I wish I could do this individually and I’m sure I will but just wanted to place my gratitude on record.
It was only just over a month ago during a conversation with Lynn Robinson, about our concern for Steve’s welfare, we decided the best way to provide support was to help Chris (Minchella) raise funds for his renovation work to facilitate accommodation for Steve. Chris and Steve had unselfishly raised over £16,000 for Alzheimer’s, it was now time to help them.
Lynn got straight to work on seeking Leeds City Councils help and I started recruiting players. Friday’s game was testament to what can be achieved when people come together.
A massive thank you to everyone involved and who supported the event.
Some extra thanks to:
- Dave Brook (Dransfield Roofing), Jack Latus (Latus Group), Gareth Naylor (Ison Harrison), Anthony Howcroft (Robertson Elliot), Hamish Munton (Canyon 20), Dan Briggs (BriggsBuild construction), Carlos Sanchez (PCSM Dry Lining & Plastering) These guys put their hand in their pocket straight away and raised the money for the kits.
- Leeds City Council for use of facilities.
- Keith and Tim at Tuffs for a fantastic quality kit turned around in a short space of time.
- Soneka Sports at Wakefield for donating all the strapping.
- Mark Collin of the Hare & Hounds Rothwell for providing amazing food for the players afterwards.
- Peter Jarvis for organising referees and making sure I didn’t forget any small detail. The regular conversations really helped.
- The referees society for providing some top officials.
- James Deighton of West Yorkshire Sport for regular air time and promotion.
- Gaz Evans for promoting the events with some great artwork all over social media.
- West Bowling & Normanton Knights players who were all fantastic and great sports.
- Jason Jarvis & Trevor Brown for helping with the changing rooms.
- Phil Hodgson for being really supportive and obviously all the staff that had a busy night and worked really hard.
- Supporters Steve Beck, Richard Whitehead and David (Reading) Smith for doing the bucket collection.
I hope it was a good night for Hunslet despite the 1st team’s result.
Lastly, a big thank you from myself and all the ex-players to the supporters. We had a great time and will be back soon.
We’ve swept the seas before, boys, And so we shall again”
