Leeds Samaritans celebrates 50 years 1966-2016

As part of the national Charity, the Leeds Branch of Samaritans is raising awareness of its services during its 50th year celebration in 2016.

Leeds volunteers were delighted to be supported by the Club during the match against Salford Red Devils on 17th April. Many of you will have seen us brandishing buckets, in our hi-vis green tabards; you might also have spotted our stand in the Phoenix Bar, and our banners pitch-side.

You very generously enabled us to raise £199 on the day, which provides much needed funds to run the Leeds Branch of Samaritans – all of our work is carried out by unpaid volunteers; day and night. So a big “Thank you” to Hunslet Hawks and all it’s supporters.

Since our Branch opened in 1966, we have received more than 1.4 million contacts and locally have trained almost 3000 volunteers over 50 years to be there when people need us – that really is at any time of the day or night, 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year.

So do remember……Whatever might be getting to you; whatever life has thrown at you; however you may be feeling… it’s ok to ring Samaritans. You won’t be judged, criticised or rushed. It’s totally confidential and anonymous. Making that first call might feel like a big step, but we are there for you – anytime. Our volunteers are ordinary people – but are well trained to listen. At Samaritans we don’t just hear you.. we LISTEN.
