Deputy Lord Mayor, Cllr Barry Anderson, and wife Caroline were in attendance on Friday at the Clubs heritage night which took place in the Phoenix Bar.

The Heritage Open Days are a nationwide chance to go behind the scenes or visit places not usually open to the public- all free.  This is our 2nd year of joining.  The HOD theme was Architecture, so the displays showed how to build a club:

  1. The ground = shows all the grounds we’ve played at
  2. The committee – to get us organised so 1883 Minutes Book on show where the Hunslet Cricket and Athletic Club decide to try rugby.  Also other old Minutes books on show
  3. The kids – Steve Boothroyd brought along Leeds & Hunslet Schools memorabilia and the Hunslet Carr pupil, Spinks, had his many medals from the 1920s on show.
  4. The players , including Lucius Banks, those who fought in the world wars, those who were successful
  5. The fans – various rattles, scarves, objects incl Miss Hunslet sashes and several 1940s/50s scrapbooks
  6. The ref – scrapbook of George Philpott.
  7. The Aussies are coming – when Hunslet have played Australia and players who have represented GB

Also Aidie Jinks and Martin Stewart were on hand to answer any queries as well as myself, pat Benatmane.  plus Jarvo, Kenny and Neil

The deputy lord mayor gave a speech emphasizing how important our community was/is to pride in the area.
