Hunslet Rugby League Club are proud to share details of the club’s developing relationship with Leeds Beckett University.

During the pre-season phase, the club have been accessing the universities’ world-class facilities in the shape of new 3G training pitches, high-performance gym and lecture theatres. In addition to this, the relationship has continued to evolve, with a few players from the Leeds Beckett Rugby League programme being identified as players to monitor and offer potential opportunities to, once the student Rugby League season is completed.

Speaking on the relationship, Hunslet Director of Rugby, Darren Higgins, added: “The relationship we are starting to develop with Mark Butterill and Leeds Beckett University is an important one for Hunslet Rugby League.

“Not only is the university able to provide some of the best training facilities in the country, but Leeds Beckett’s Rugby League side and the student game generally is a talent pool that we are keen to monitor and tap into.

“Ryan Hall is also an example who is benefiting from the partnership with full-time studies at Leeds Beckett University and tapping into the outstanding Rugby League programme at the University whilst he continues to work hard to put himself in contention to play Championship rugby.”

Leeds Beckett Head of Rugby League, Mark Butterill added: “The relationship with Hunslet has been fantastic so far and has provided our students with the opportunity to train at a higher standard.

“Areas such as going 13v13 in the build-up to a national semi-final and the support Hunslet has offered Beckett’s team in their quest to win a Grand Final have been invaluable.

“It’s still early days, but connecting with other coaches and having open discussions around the game also supports our staff here. My aim as Head of Rugby is to create a strong hub of Rugby League at Leeds Beckett for both men’s and women’s teams.

“Our strong partnership with Leeds Rhinos allows us to grow, and working alongside Hunslet further strengthens both player and coach development.”
