Linzi Prescott, wife of the late Rugby League star Steve Prescott, has been training hard as she prepares to take part in this yearโs Morrisons Great Manchester Run.
Linzi is one of ‘Radcliffe’s Great Runners’, six local women that are being trained and mentored by athletics legend, Paula Radcliffe ahead of the Run.
She is taking part in the Morrisons Great Manchester Run on Sunday, May 10, in aid of the Steve Prescott Foundation, established in the name of her late husband, who became a legend of the sport throughout his distinguished career.
And Linzi is calling on Hunslet Hawks fans to join her in this yearโs Great Manchester Run.
Linzi, and the other five ‘Radcliffe Great Runners’ have been given top training tips by Paula and spoke to her before taking part in a warm-up routine with the athletics legend. They met at Salford Quays on Thursday, March 26, before Paula officially set off runners in a Great Run Local a free-to-enter training run which takes place weekly in Manchester.
The special session was designed to help get the women in shape for Europe’s biggest 10k Run. The women will also receive a pep talk from Paula on the day of the Morrisons Great Manchester Run before they line up with up to 40,000 other entrants.
Radcliffe said: “Everyone has their own personal goal for taking part in the Morrisons Great Manchester Run and I was delighted to meet Linzi and the team and see how they are progressing in the countdown to May 10.
“I’d like to encourage more women to take up running – it’s been my life and is a great form of exercise.
“You don’t have to be an elite athlete to take part. A 10k road run is the perfect entry level distance. It’s long enough to be a challenge but not too daunting for a first-timer.”
Mum-of-two, Linzi, showed great courage with her support during Steve’s seven-year struggle against a rare form of abdominal cancer before he died in November 2013. Amazingly, he carried out a series of gruelling sporting challenges despite his illness, raising funds for the charity.
