Hunslet RLFC are delighted to announce that our new Head Coach for 2024 will be Dean Muir.
Muir has enjoyed success as assistant coach at Keighley, including an unbeaten Betfred League 1 season in 2022 and returning as part of the coaching set up since July to guide them to Betfred Championship safety in 2023. He has also had great success this year in securing top spot for West Bowling in winning promotion to the Impact Performance National Conference League’s Premier Division.
Muir emerged as the successful candidate from a high-quality field, including applicants across both codes of rugby.
Hunslet chairman Kenny Sykes said: “Dean is an up-and-coming young coach who impressed greatly with his knowledge of the club, the technical aspects of the sport and his long-term vision, which is very much aligned with our own.
“His appointment followed a robust selection process and I’d like to thank all those individuals who took the time to apply for the post and wish them all success in the future. For both Hunslet, and Dean, this is an opportunity for us to move forward together to achieve our aims.”
Miur said: “I’m excited by the challenge and can’t wait to start. I’m looking forward to working with a talented group of players and I know we can achieve performances the fans will be proud of.”
Dean Muir will formally take up his role on Sunday 1 October. In the meantime, the club has pledged to continue its support of present coach Alan Kilshaw and the team in achieving their goal of promotion to the Championship this season.
They need stability as a matter of urgency. Trailed from Morecambe to see them last night, and had car trouble in the bargain. No disrespect to Doncaster, but we should have beaten them, indeed we scored in the first few minutes and then lost direction.
He has an hard act to follow. But let’s hope he can carry on the success Alan has brought us.
