Recap
The Hawks opened their 2011 pre season friendlies with the visit to Post Office Road for the Gareth Swift Memorial Trophy. On a bitterly cold day over a thousand hardy souls turned out for the eagerly awaited visit of the Hawks, and both teams took the opportunity to blood their new signings for the coming season. Featherstone came out worthy winners as their superiority told in most departments. The most glaringly obvious was possibly their speed and awareness around the play the ball.
The step up to the Championship will be a massive test for us, and this game was invaluable as we seek to gain experience at the higher level. We showed that we are more than capable of scoring tries against Championship opposition, and Featherstone were the best in the league last year. Hopefully we will be able to compete on a weekly basis and retain our status come the end of the season.
Andrew Yates had a promising debut and the pack as a whole competed very well with a very good Fev.’ 6 who are obviously one of the best organised in the league. At the time of writing I understand we picked up no injuries during the game, and we now move on to the Lazenby Cup against the old enemy on Sunday 16th January.
