Our long serving forward, Harry Wilson, was plying his trade with England, up against the New Zealanders today in 1908. The match was at Wigan and resulted in a 18-16 win for the home side. On the New Zealand side, on the wing, was Edgar Wrigley who would sign for Hunslet before WW1.
Walter Goldthorpe had a long train journey to Exeter in 1892 to play for Yorkshire in the second of two County Championship matches played over 3 days in the West Country. Waler didn’t score but Tykes beet Devon 15-0.
Leslie Llewellyn “Les” White, our new hooker from Pontypridd RU, made the first of 43 representative appearances as a Hunslet player today, including the Tour to Australasia in 1932. Selected before he had played a game of Rugby League and before Hunslet registered him with the RL, he played at Wigan in the match against England. England won the game 20-12.
