In the home match against Hull in 1978, Sammy Lloyd kicked six goals for the visitors before being sent-off in the 58th minute. . It later transpired that there had been an “unseemly incident” in the dressing room between Lloyd and Hunslet’s George Standidge which led to a fine of £50 for Hunslet.

Nothing much of note could be found for today so here’s a summary of representative and cup games….
In 2003 a New Zealand Residents team was touring England and today played National League Two at Keighley. Second-rower Wayne Freeman was selected for the National League, a match they won 25-8.

In the first post WW1 County Championship in 1919 forward Tom Johnson was selected for Yorkshire against Cumberland in opposition to his Hunslet team-mate William Pearson on their home ground of Parkside. Pearson scored an early try as his team went down 9-25.
Sid Rookes played the last of his three appearances for Yorkshire today in 1947 at Headingley. Sid didn’t get mentioned by name but the finger was pointed as the lack of opportunities for Yorkshire’s wingers was laid at the door of the “inside back’s poor passing and irresolute running”. Cumberland won 15-9.

1949’s International between Wales and Other Nationalities at Abertillery was ruined by icy rain throughout and the captains asked the referee to stop the game early to put them out of their misery! Hunslet’s Les Williams had no opportunity to impress the watching Great Britain selectors as Other Nationalities won 6-5.
Hunslet had had little luck with fixtures against touring Australian sides, the two scheduled before today’s 1952 game being cancelled through poor weather. They got the game on today but it was a very wet day and the selectors had deprived them of two of their international players in Jack Evans and Les Williams who would play for Wales at the weekend. As such Hunslet were never in the running and succumbed to a 2-49 defeat.
Following yesterday’s abandoned 1953 Yorkshire Cup semi-final against Hull at Parkside, the fog had lifted and the match got underway. A Granville James try and Arthur Talbot goal had put Hunslet into a 5-4 half-time lead but they lost Ginger Burnell late in the half with a damaged cheekbone and concussion. As such Hunslet’s attack was severely limited in the second half and they couldn’t add to their score and a try and goal for Hull took them through 9-5.
