Hunslet Hawks may be riding high at the top of Championship 1 but the players still found time for a spot of scuba diving ahead of their weekend victory over Gateshead Thunder.
Aaron Lyons, Danny Ansell, Liam Mackay, John Oakes and Luke Stenchion were keen to experience the fantastic facilities at the Aquatic Centre at the John Charles Centre for Sport as the Hawks continue to build strong links with the local community.
The session was kindly arranged by Val Walton from the Leeds British Sub Aqua Club who are based at the centre. Val commented “Diving is something everyone should experience once in their life and we are fortunate in Leeds to have one of the best centres in the country. We train on Wednesday evenings from 7.15pm to 9pm and everyone is welcome. “Try Dives” can be arranged and cost as little as £10 so we’d encourage people to give it a go”.
Hawks Community Director Phil Hodgson commented “We’d like to thank Val and her team for putting this special session on for the lads. They thoroughly enjoyed it and hopefully it will help raise awareness of the exceptional facilities we have in South Leeds. One of the key objectives of the Hawks is to promote healthy lifestyles in the community and we’ll be looking to get involved in other activities in the coming months.
Once the season is over we may even look to see if we have any budding Tom Daley’s ready to take on the 10m diving board”.
