Although Hunslet lost the Qualifying Play-off game at Rochdale last week, they feel they aren’t done yet with regards to this season.
The Parksiders were hit with injuries at a crucial time in the game, and having started strongly felt it was a game that they could have won, but Coach Dean Muir wants to focus solely on what his team can control.
“We can’t make excuses. We have to deal with our performance, all the other external things don’t matter. We’ve recovered and now it’s time to put our best foot forward. Make sure we react to the challenge and keep this season alive.”
The challenge this week comes from a resurgent Midlands Hurricanes who defeated Workington Town last week in the eliminator.
Hunslet have beaten Midlands three times this season, but this means nothing on Sunday when it all comes down to one knock-out match.
“We know Midlands well, they are a well organised team with individual threats all over the park.” said Muir “We’ve not won a play-off game since 2017, so that’s incentive enough on our home patch.”
A battered and bruised squad have some injury concerns but Muir said “We are doing everything we can to get players fit, but we have a talented squad of players that can come in”
One thing recognised by Muir and his squad at Rochdale was the tremendous backing of the Hunslet support. “The fans were very vocal and loud and got right behind the team. We need that again as every game now is essentially a final.”
