Hunslet go into Friday Nights Clash against Sheffield Eagles at the Olympic Legacy Park (7.30pm KO) looking for a big performance and reply after losing out at York Knights last time out 58-8.
In the previous two games Hunslet won at Batley and lost at home to Widnes 14-28 in a game they probably should have won. But a quality York side showed why they beat Bradford Bulls last week to reach the 1895 Cup.
“York are a very, very good side and are probably what we aspire to be in terms of squad and marketing. But we underperformed and need to put that right at Sheffield Eagles. It was frustrating for the fans, but we leave no stone unturned, and we go again.” said Head Coach Dean Muir.
Sheffield have had an up and down season so far (Winning 3 and Losing 6) but still pose a great threat for the Championship new boys
“You only have to look at the squad. Jack Walker, Cory Aston, Eddie Battye, Reiss Butterworth, Kris Welham, Titus Gwaze. There is some real quality there, Super League and top end of the Championship experience. They are well Coached by a great Coach Craig Lingard. We go into this as underdogs, but we’ve prepared well and we ourselves have threats all over the pitch. It should be a great game.”
Hunslet beat Midlands at the Olympic Legacy Park last season so have experience of a 4G pitch, but the home side play on it every two weeks.
“It’s a faster game on a 4G pitch and the bounce is very different. But we go tonight (Wednesday) to train up at Middleton on the 4G pitch to prepare ourselves for the challenge.” said Muir.
Aaron Levy faces a late test after concussion, and Mackenzie Turner comes back into contention. Otherwise Hunslet have a clean bill of health. But as ever the Coaching staff are looking to strengthen and are close to making additions over the next few weeks.
Leaving the Club though is Ross Whitmore. Whitmore was an integral part of last years promotion side, but after injury was fighting to get in the squad. Ross has taken on a new challenge at Rochdale and the Club wish him all the best for the future.
