Head coach Alan Kilshaw has confirmed his 21-man squad for the home Betfred League One fixture with Midlands Hurricanes (Sunday 16 April, 3.00pm).
The line-up includes scrum-half Matty Beharrell, who played eight games for the Parksiders last year while on loan from Dewsbury, and who has put pen to paper on a deal which keeps him at the South Leeds Stadium until the end of this season. Players who are unavailable this week, however, include second row Nathan Newbound, who injured his back in the Good Friday clash at Dewsbury Rams, and stand-off Jake Sweeting, who is recovering from a torn quad. Both should be fit for the next league fixture, at Cornwall on Saturday 13 May. Kieron Lawton, meanwhile, has been released because of increased work commitments.
‘Killer’ said: “We’re still looking for a complete 80-minute performance and, in trying to evolve and develop our attack, have made some changes that we hope will accelerate that process.
“However, we don’t want it to be to the detriment of our defence. In three games out of four this season we have kept teams scoreless in the second halves, and have kept two really good attacking sides (North Wales and Dewsbury Rams) to eight and twelve points respectively.”
‘Killer’ continued: “We are doing the hard stuff really well and as it’s our last home league game until we entertain Workington on Sunday 21 May it’s important that we put in a good performance in front of our loyal supporters. And it’s also important that they turn out in numbers and get behind the team.”
Hunslet will select from: Jimmy Watson, Jack Render, Adam Ryder, Joe Burton, Nathan Conroy, Matty Beharrell, Harvey Hallas, Sam Hallas, Steve Crossley, Josh Jordan-Roberts, Aaron York, Michael Knowles, Danny Barcoe, Jordan Syme, Lewis Wray, Dan McGrath, Jordan Bull, Morgan Punchard, Brad Wheeler, Spencer Darley, Alfie Goddard.
Sad news ‘re Kieron Lawton. I wish him well.
Don’t we know a players work commitments before we sign them on?
