Hunslet RLFC are delighted to have secured Club Captain Matty Beharrell on a new 2-year deal, which will see the popular half-back remain at the South Leeds Stadium until the end of the 2026 season.

The 30-year-old half-back was instrumental in Hunslet’s success last season, with the supporters voting him ‘Player of the Season’ and Hunslet head Coach Dean Muir referring to him as ‘Captain Marvel’.

Dean Muir commented “It’s great to secure Matty on a new two-year deal. He really started to go to another level in the Play-offs and showed his talent and selfless attitude in those games.

“I’m excited to be working with him as we look to keep them high standards he’s set. He is a vital part of what we are trying to achieve next season.

“It’s an exciting time for everyone involved with the Club, and to secure Matty for next two season will no doubt add to that excitement as we head into 2025 and beyond.”

“I can’t wait to get started after last season.” said Beharrell “The way it ended was unbelievable for everyone involved with the Club, and it was just as much for the people behind the scenes for their hard work and dedication as us players.

“Getting this great Club back in the Championship was what everyone wanted and needed.”

Looking ahead, Beharrell knows it won’t be an easy road in a quality stacked Championship.

“It will be tough in 2025, as the Championship is a whole different beast. But we have well and truly earned the right to be there, and we’ll make a fist of it.

“I’m happy to have signed for 2 more years as I really feel part of this Club and feel like one of their own, and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone back down at the South Leeds Stadium, giving us that great support both home and away like at the back end of last season, and hopefully seeing some new faces and getting some decent crowds down to our matches”.

As the Club Captain, Matty had the honour of lifting the play-off trophy and spoke about what Hunslet meant to him.

“I hope the fans can see I play with passion and love playing for this Club, and leading the boys out each week.”

The answer to that is ‘yes! Hunslet fans will be delighted to see Matty back in Myrtle, White and Flame next season as Hunslet continue to build a really competitive Squad for 2025.
