Hunslet Coach Dean Muir has taken George Flanagan Jr on loan from Huddersfield Giants ahead of his side’s home clash against Midlands Hurricanes this Sunday (June 16th 3pm).

The 19 year old was a sensation at Bradford Bulls last season and comes on loan to his father’s old stamping ground of the South Leeds Stadium.

Flanagan is hoped to fit in with Matty Beharrell at half-back but can also play a number of positions. Also in the squad are impressive youngsters Joe Law and Isaac Shaw on Dual registration from Wakefield Trinity.

With two home games on the bounce Hunslet can really put pressure on the top 2 teams but will not take their opponents lightly. Midlands have had victories against Workington and North Wales recently, and gave Keighley Cougars a scare on their last outing.

“These are not like the Midlands teams of the past.” said Muir “They have been three years in the building and are invested and consistent. They are direct, tough and physical and are looking to the future.”

“The victory at Keighley laid down a marker, but we cannot live by the result alone. The next ten games are all massive and we must kick-on.”

Last time out Hunslet showed grit and determination holding out for victory at Derwent Park, Workington. But Muir believes we still haven’t seen a complete performance from his side. “We’ve not played our best Rugby over 80 minutes yet.

“When we are on the game plan we are very good, like in the first half at Workington. But when we are not on plan and take short cuts we get found out.

“The desire and effort of this squad can’t be questioned, but the skill execution means we are leaving too many points out there.”

Still, with four victories on the road and Hunslet lying in 3rd position in League one it’s a happy place to be with the first half of the season gone.
