Head Coach Dean Muir has prepared his squad for this weekends trip to Colwyn Bay to play North Wales Crusaders (Sunday July 21 st 2:30pm) after his sides scratchy win last time out at Newcastle Thunder.

“It’s good to be playing back-to-back weeks.” said Muir “having breaks is frustrating, but that’s something we must deal with. Some people let themselves down at Newcastle, we lacked leadership and knowledge and allowed frustration to get the better of us. We didn’t stick to the gameplan, we don’t need to score on every play which can be frustrating.”

Hunslet won the game 16-42 but these are the standards the Parksiders now set themselves as they move up into 3rd in the Betfred league One.

Although Hunslet were not firing on all cylinders Muir praised some of his players for their performances. “I thought George Flanagan was a massive threat, Jude Ferreira produced some good attacking play, Az Levy was solid as ever and Jordan Paga dealt well with coming back into the fold, also Liam Carr took his tries well coming off the bench late on.”

This week’s trip to North Wales brings another challenge. “We need to be on the front foot against this team, they’ve recruited well and have different players from the last time we met. They are an 80-minute team. Direct, well drilled, simple but fast, so we need to be on it.”

Hunslet take Joe Law and Noah Booth on Dual Registration from Wakefield. Booth has not played this season for Hunslet due to injury but is a utility back who is powerful and quick coming with a good reputation. “There will be a few changes to the 21-man squad” said Muir “I’ve got a selection headache, but that’s good to have.”

One of Hunslet’s evergreens this year has been Jordan Syme. The loose-forward if selected will make his 100th career appearance this weekend and his coach was full of praise about what Syme brings to the team. “Jordan is a massive player for us, he has a good work rate and understands as a team what we want to do. He does a lot of stuff away from training that fans may not know about. He puts in extra sessions and sacrifices his time for the cause. Jordan’s a class act.”
