Experienced prop Alex Rowe is determined to make a real impact for Hunslet as and when the Betfred League 1 season kicks off next spring.
Rowe, 35, signed for the Parksiders at the turn of the year – only for action to be curtailed in March when the coronavirus hit, with Hunslet riding high at the top of the Betfred League 1 table.
He said: “When I joined Hunslet at the beginning of 2020 my basic plan was to consider retiring at the end of the year. “The campaign never got going though, because of Covid-19, so I’m keen to put in another season and take it from there.
It’s also very good being at Hunslet. There’s a great group of players at the South Leeds Stadium, we all get on well, there’s plenty of banter and we’re all willing to work hard for each other. That can take you a long way; you can have the best players in the world but if they don’t gel, on and off the field, you can have problems” .
Rowe added: “There are no such problems at Hunslet and I’m confident that, next season, we can make a big impact in the battle for promotion. And I’m looking forward to being part of the bid” .
Head coach Gary Thornton said: “Alex came in last season from Newcastle and had an immediate impact on the squad. He’s a big personality and character and is well respected within the game, having played at some decent clubs in the Championship.
He played an important role in gelling everyone together last season and quickly established himself as a senior player within the group. His presence and size on the field is obvious to see and he is a real handful for opposing defences. He will play a vital role in getting us on the front foot for our attacking game, and in causing problems with his offloads”.
Thornton concluded: “I’m really pleased he’s staying for another season with us; he will be a real cornerstone of our pack”.
