Jimmy Watson is back in the myrtle, white and flame for 2025 and his 12th Season with the Club after playing in Hunslet’s last spell in the Championship back in 2015.
The 33 year old Full-back played some of his best Rugby last season helping steer Hunslet into the play-offs from Full-Back then covering in the Centre later in the season. And of course being band leader in the post-match celebrations, green bin and all!
Dean Muir commented “Jimmy is a Club legend and someone we value highly. It’s amazing to have him involved with the squad as no one knows the Club like he does. He will bring experience and passion to the group.”
“2024 was an unreal year for myself.” said Watson “I got married to my amazing wife, and the Club I hold close to my heart, my second home achieved Promotion.
“I’d like to say a massive thank you to all involved with the club and especially the fans who followed us everywhere, bringing the noise. We are back in the Championship where we belong!”
Not only has Jimmy experience of playing in the Championship he still has records to beat. Since the Clubs reformation in 1973 Jimmy is 4th highest for appearances (233) behind Mick Coyle, Steve Pryce and Graham King, and 2nd in the try scoring list with 85 (Behind Graham Kings 132). Though it’ll take more than this season to beat George Broughton’s 193 tries and Albert Goldthorpe’s 701 appearances.
Still, supporters will be thrilled to see Jimmy back in the squad this season. No other player deserves it more after being at the Club for 12 Seasons.
“I loved every minute this year (2024), with a great bunch of lads who showed unreal togetherness. I’m really excited for next season.
“I’ve got more years behind me than in front so to see the lads challenge in the Championship is something I’m really looking forward to. We had to wait 10 years, but we’re back baby!! All Huns aren’t we! So we shall Again.”
