Hunslet Head Coach Kyle Trout has prepared his team for their trip to Dewsbury this Sunday (Aug 2nd) knowing they need a win to kick start a strong end to the season.
Defeat to Whitehaven last week was hard to take. Individual mistakes cost Hunslet, but Trout felt some of the decisions cost his team.
“We felt we had at least 3 tries disallowed that should have stood, even then we could have won late on. We wouldn’t probably have deserved it, but I would have taken it.
“We could play a long time and not see so many individual errors. Hopefully that will be a one off. We’ve flipped the script this week and know where we need to improve. Some of the mistakes were from simple plays not when we are being expansive. We are a better team playing more expansive.”
Loan Signings Matty Laidlaw (Hull) and Blake Broadbent (Sheffield) come into the Squad. Laidlaw has featured earlier this Season.
“We have a strong squad out. Matty has been good for us this year and Blake has a point to prove on loan from Sheffield. Jayden Hatton is back to full fitness, other than Billy Jowitt and Keelan Foster we are probably full strength.”
“The lads realise if they want to get anything from what they have put in this year then now’s the time to do it. We need a response from last week and to treat each of the four remaining games like Cup-finals.
“We lost the opening game to Dewsbury, so that should be motivation enough. They played mid-week at Keighley and won so we are aware of their threats. O’Connor at Full back is a threat and Tom Delaney got four tries out on the left wing, but on our day we can beat anybody, we just need those one or two players not nailing their rolls to be on it.
“Understandably there is some doom and gloom, but it’s small margins. You couldn’t write some of the missed opportunities on Sunday, but the lads are hurting and want to put it right.”
Three players of note on Sunday were Ethan O’Hanlon, Harrison Gilmore and Sam Grice. All ran strong and aggressively, and if the Hunslet pack can get on top it gives a good platform for that backline to trouble the Rams at a stadium Hunslet haven’t won in since 2004. Now would be a good time to update that statistic.
