The Phoenix Bar, Friday 26 April, 7.30pm
This year’s inductees to the Hunslet Hall of Fame are two players who served the Club with distinction through the 70’s and early 80’s.
Alan Griffiths and Kenny Sykes stayed loyal to the Club following the closure of Parkside and were integral to its resurrection as New Hunslet at the Greyhound Stadium.
Firm friends off the pitch they were formidable teammates on it. Alan was an attack minded loose forward with an eye for a try, scoring 16 tries in the 76/77 season which earned him a call up to the Yorkshire team the following season.
Kenny was Mr Reliable and would play anywhere for the good of the team. He played every game in the promotion winning team of 78/79, losing only 4 games all season they were beaten to top spot by the Invincibles of Hull. One of Kenny’s proudest moments was captaining the A team to victory in the Yorkshire Senior Competition Cup, the first trophy to be won by “New” Hunslet.
Ex-payers and supporters are invited to come along to what promises to be an emotional evening as the Club honours two of its favourite sons.
If I’m back from France I’ll be there
