Hunslet’s members will learn today (Monday 4 January 2021) that despite the impact of the Covid-19 crisis on sport as a whole the club, which headed Betfred League 1 when the lockdown struck last March, is on a sound financial footing after having battled back from a testing position towards the end of 2019.
Members, who have played an important part by backing the club to the hilt – with vital support also being received from sponsors and fans as a whole, together with the coaching and playing staff – will before the day is out receive a report from the board outlining the significant progress made up to last November’s year-end, while contingency plans are in place in anticipation of possibly fluctuating future developments relating to the coronavirus pandemic, and the subsequent reactions of the Government and the Rugby Football League.
Chairman Kenny Sykes advised: “Without doubt this has been an extremely challenging year worldwide due to the Covid-19 pandemic and Rugby League, as with all sports, has been massively impacted. Despite that, the club finds itself in a much-improved position across a range of key areas over the last twelve months.
“As part of our commitment to keeping members informed this board report outlines those areas as well as identifying areas for further improvement in 2021.”
He concluded: “In addition to this report the AGM will be held on Friday 22 January at 7pm to formally present the accounts and allow members to ask questions. At the moment it is anticipated this will be online. Further details will be announced shortly.”
