A minute’s silence will observed before every Rugby League match across all competitions and age groups this weekend in memory of Danny Jones.
The 29-year-old Keighley Cougars player died from a suspected cardiac arrest after being taken ill during a League 1 fixture at London Skolars last Sunday.
A Just Giving page set up by the RFL Benevolent Fund to raise funds for Danny’s wife Liz and their five-month-old twins Phoebe and Bobby has already received donations of almost £70,000.
RFL Chief Executive Nigel Wood said: “It’s at times like these that the whole Rugby League family comes together and the sum already raised for Danny’s family is evidence of the sense of loss we all share.
“Every penny of the money donated through the Just Giving page will go to Liz Jones and her children and it would be terrific if we were able to reach our goal of raising £100,000 to help provide financial stability for the family.
“I am sure that the minute’s silences at this weekend’s fixtures will be impeccably observed as the sport pays its respects to a young man who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.”
