For the first game of 2012 at home to Whitehaven, new coach Barry Eaton rang the changes and had six players on debut. Starting for the first time for the Hawks were:-

Danny Allan, Ryan Benjafield, Lee Brickwood, Luke Helliwell, Steve Lewis, Josh Nathaniel and David Toothill

In 1977, New Hunslet had their second Yorkshire representative player when Peter Muscroft was selected to play against Cumbria at Whitehaven. Peter didn’t score as the teams drew 12-12.

The 15th of February was a busy day for Billy Batten over the years:-

1908, he got his first Great Britain cap, playing on  the wing against New Zealand at Cheltenham. The Northern Union lost 5-8. Also in the game was Harry Wilson.

1909, selected (with Bill Jukes) for Northern Union against Australia at Villa Park. NU won 6-5.

1913 and Billy was in action for England against Wales at Plymouth. England coasted to a 40-16 win. He didn’t score but his Hunslet wing partner Albert Jenkinson got a try from a Batten pass.

1896 saw Hunslet host Warrington for the first time, but they couldn’t reverse the result of the opening day defeat, going down 3-5 and thus suffering the first “double”  against them in the Northern Union era.
