Head Coach Dean Muir has prepared his squad for this Sunday’s (February 9th 3pm) Challenge Cup Round three game against Super League Huddersfield Giants.

The 2025 Parksiders are raring to go and test themselves against strong opposition before the League Season starts on February 16th.

These two famous old clubs have met in the Challenge Cup on five previous occasions. The earliest being in 1932 when Hunslet saw a 7-5 victory see them into round two. The Fartowners gained revenge in 1971 with a 0-16 win.

Hunslet were victorious in the 1934 Semi-Final (on their way to winning the Cup) and the 1954 Quarter-Final, but the most recent meeting in 2003 lives long in the memory. Roy Sampson’s League 1 side defeated the newly promoted Fartowners 18-14, putting to an end Huddersfield’s chances of recording the longest ever winning streak.

Even with history on their side, Hunslet realise this is a very different Giants team to 22 years ago.

Head Coach Dean Muir said “It’s really exciting, this is going to be a good test for us. Both teams will come out firing. Us in preparation for the Championship season and Huddersfield in preparation for Super League. I’ve watched all their friendlies and I’ve seen their shape. They were missing some star players in the friendlies, but I expect a strong Huddersfield side full of attacking threat, and we must prepare for that.”

Behind closed doors games have been Hunslet’s preparation and Muir and his team are fine with that, most recently in a good run out for all the squad against Sheffield Eagles.

“We keep building, and are ready to rip into the season. Our main focus is obviously to stay and establish ourselves as a Championship Club, but the seventeen picked on Sunday will have earned the shirt, and will have to try to keep it.

“Places are up for grabs. We’ll test combinations and concentrate on going about our business rather than worrying about Huddersfield. If we get our game right, the rest will take care of itself.”

Hunslet have injury worries over Brad Clavering, Matty Fletcher, Aaron Levy and Liam Carr but star signings Greg Eden and Kevin Larroyer are included in the squad for the first time. Noah Booth looks set to play after his season loan move was confirmed following his move from Wakefield to Hull KR.
