Hunslet face Doncaster this weekend (March 9th 3pm) at the South Leeds Stadium in what some people may think of as a ‘4 pointer’ for the Parksiders.
Hunslet Head Coach Dean Muir thinks every week is a big game. “We have no weeks off. Every game is a big game. We were disappointed not to beat Bradford a fortnight ago, and we should have beaten Widnes in the 1895 cup last weekend. But there are no excuses, we’re not looking anywhere else but only at our own performance.”
Hunslet haven’t played the Dons since the 2023 play-off game at the South Leeds Stadium, where Doncaster won 14-26 on a bitterly disappointing day for the home side. Since then, the Dons have had a good year in the Championship, finishing 8th with 12 from 26 wins.
Muri commented: “Doncaster are a well-coached side. They have established themselves in the Championship, which is what we aim to do. We will be underdogs, like in every game this season. We realise it’s an important game in front of our home support, but like every week we go about our business and do our job.”
Loan players Zach Fishwick and Thomas Deakin have been called back to their Clubs (Hull KR and Huddersfield Giants) respectively, so Hunslet have taken two players on loan from Bradford Bulls.
Emmanuel Waine is a 28-year-old Middle and former Papua New Guinea international nicknamed ‘Big Truck’ back in his home country. Waine moved to Bradford Bulls this season after having two good seasons at London Broncos, whilst Mason Corbett is an 18-year-old hooker previously at Leeds Rhinos after playing his junior rugby locally at East Leeds ARLFC.
Both these players have a chance to show what they can do in Myrtle, White and Flame.
Also back in contention is popular forward Matty Fletcher, who was a big player in Hunslets’ push for promotion last season.
“It’s great to have Matty back.” said Dean Muir “He adds to us culturally, is fast, strong and extremely skilful.”
Brad Clavering, Liam Carr, Kobe Rugless and Cam Berry are all out injured, whilst Keelan Foster comes closer to contention in the coming weeks.
