Hunslet Coach Dean Muir has named his squad for the annual Harry Jepson OBE Memorial Trophy against Leeds Rhinos this Friday at the South Leeds Stadium (7.30pm).
The Parksiders have been victorious in this pre-season cup over the last few seasons and hope to be ‘Kings of the City’ again for 2024.
After a tough outing against a strong Featherstone Rovers side last Sunday it’s expected they will face a youthful Leeds side and will be hoping to get an early season win under their belts.
“Everybody that hasn’t played in the first two games will play against Leeds or Batley next week. It’s about staking a claim for the shirt and putting us in good stead for the league campaign” said Muir.
Hunslet will welcome back Aidan Scully into the squad after a back spasm, but having lost Rhys Davies (retirement) and Mac Walsh (to Toulouse) places are up for grabs.
The squad will also include two trialists Luke Punton and Luke Mearns.
Hunslet’s priority this season is to get into the Championship, but with a derby versus Batley next week and a juicy cup tie against Keighley plus Friday’s derby against ‘them from over the river’ there’s no better preparation for a successful league campaign.
