Thanks to National Lottery players, ‘Try for Tomorrow’ partners have received £1.5 million from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest community funder in the UK, to help the Rugby League community across the country to reduce the impact of human activity on the climate.
Community Director Phil Hodgson explained “As our formal community partner, The Hunslet Club is now part of the wider RFL Community Trust group and have benefitted from this funding. We are thankful to the Trust and the National Lottery players for their support”.
Phil continued “The Hunslet Club has a proven track record of delivery of projects like this, recently being awarded Sustainability Champion of the Year award at this year’s Leeds Sports Awards. This was in recognition of their hard work and commitment behind their Eco Gym & Fitness Suite. We are proud to play our part in securing them 3 year funding to develop their work further”.
Ryan Grant, Director of Business and Education at The Hunslet Club added “This demonstrates the value of working collaboratively with Hunslet RLFC. We are also excited about working alongside the RFL Community Trust and associated partners to deliver the important messages on climate change to the young people in our community.”

About The National Lottery Community Fund
We are the largest non-statutory community funder in the UK – community is at the heart of our purpose, vision and name.
We support activities that create resilient communities that are more inclusive and environmentally sustainable and that will strengthen society and improve lives across the UK.
We’re proud to award money raised by National Lottery players to communities across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and to work closely with Government to distribute vital grants and funding from key Government programmes and initiatives.
As well as responding to what communities tell us is important to them, our funding is focused on four key missions, supporting communities to:
- Come together
- Be environmentally sustainable
- Help children and young people thrive
- Enable people to live healthier lives.
Thanks to the support of National Lottery players, we distribute around £500 million a year through 10,000+ grants and plan to invest over £4bn of funding into communities by 2030. We’re privileged to be able to work with the smallest of local groups right up to UK-wide charities, enabling people and communities to bring their ambitions to life.
