Big Al Stephenson will be waving bye-bye – but not goodbye – to his home town of Leeds on Friday (4 September).

The former Hunslet Hawks chief executive, who was at the helm from 1995 (when the club moved into the South Leeds Stadium) until 2012, is heading to Hampshire, where he will live with his son Gareth, just outside Southampton.

He plans to get back from time to time, though, to fit Hunslet games in alongside visits to family and friends in Yorkshire.

Big Al, who has supported the club since the Greyhound Stadium era, says: “Hunslet gets into the blood – I’ll be back as often as I can!”

A full interview will appear in the September issue of South of the River, which is due out shortly.
