FIONA GALLOWAY has been confirmed as Vice Chair of Hunslet Rugby League club.

The appointment further strengthens and diversifies an already strong board and provides more immediate support for Chairman Kenny Sykes.

Galloway, while initially expressing potential interest in the role of Chair when Sykes briefly vacated his seat earlier in the year, was delighted to see him return, and confirmed she was happy to consider further opportunities in the future.

Following further discussions with board members, she has now agreed to take on the Vice Chair role on an interim basis through to the next formal Hunslet Independent Supporters’ Trust (HIST) elections in March, which will give her the opportunity to develop the role.

Sykes said: “I’m delighted with Fiona’s appointment. In addition to being significantly younger than the rest of the board, which will see her bring different ideas and fresh perspectives, it’s important that we begin our succession planning for the future. Identifying and nurturing the talent we have across our membership base is a good way of doing that.

“I’m sure she’ll find it interesting and challenging – and it will be good for me to have another confidant with whom to discuss key issues.”

Galloway said: “As a lifelong Hunslet fan, I’m really excited and proud to be part of the club’s future developments and I thank the board for their confidence in me.

“I aim to continue to work with the board and our members to build on our community values, support Kenny as chair with any challenges, and drive success on the pitch. So We Shall Again!”
