Hunslet’s head coach Gary Thornton is delighted to continue his team-building ahead of the 2021 Betfred League 1 campaign by retaining second row Danny King.

“Danny has committed to another season and I am delighted he has decided to stay.

He was a little low on confidence when he first joined us from Dewsbury, as he was disappointed at not being able to break into the Rams’ first team on a regular basis. But once he settled in, and we gave him the opportunity to show what he could do, he quickly gained in confidence and fitted into our group really well”.

He added: “Danny offers something a little different with his size and offloading abilities, and I’m hoping he can develop even further next season. With the departure of Josh Tonks to Batley I think there is a great opportunity for him to push on now and make that back-row spot his own”.

King, 23, said: “I’m very excited about re-signing. It was a no-brainer really, GT’s trying to keep the same great group of lads together, he’s pretty much succeeding, and the aim’s got to be that we kick on from how we were doing before the lockdown”.
