An injury to half-back Cain Southernwood is causing concern for Hunslet coach Gary Thornton.
Southernwood featured in the 27-20 Betfred League One win over Workington Town two days ago, but has been struggling with a persistent foot problem and went to hospital for x-rays after the match.
Thornton, whose side are without a game this weekend, is awaiting the result, but a break would add to Hunslet’s fitness woes, particularly after half-back Joel Gibson was released to rejoin community club Thornhill Trojans. “The free weekend gives us chance to get some injuries back,” Thornton said.
“We were pretty depleted [on Sunday], we are down to our last 18 or 19 fit players.”
Hunslet’s fitness levels showed as they rallied from 12 points behind for the second successive game. “It was a similar pattern to the week before at Oldham.” Thornton said.
“We conceded a try either side of half-time, but came back and won it in the last 20-25 minutes.
“We have had two good wins against two good teams, but we have to be better.
“We weren’t great in the first half, we gave them too much field position and they took their opportunities, but we fixed it up at half-time and in the second half we were really good.”
